Farewell payment terminals, hello SPE-CDNI 3.0!

“I welcome the launch of the new CDNI electronic payment system. The previous system based on the ECO card and terminals was already a very useful digital tool. The new system, especially the migration to a fully digital platform, is a new important step in the digitalisation of the inland navigation sector which – as you are aware – is front and centre of numerous discussions at the CCNR. Obviously, there is also a fallback solution for people who do not have a smart phone.” Lucia Luijten, Secretary General of the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR)

The new SPE-CDNI 3.0 payment system has been in service since 9 August 2023. Boatmasters can now no longer use ECO-cards. The data required for paying the disposal fee will need to be entered either using the new “CDNI” app or by means of a printed ECO-ID.

Meanwhile, fuel facility operators now have to use the app instead of terminals to record the data. Finally, the modular design confers the ability to add modules to the app. This is a considerable benefit, affording numerous opportunities for lightening companies’ workload.

The “CDNI” app can be used on various digital devices. It can be downloaded from the App Store and the Play Store. The web app for PC and portable computers, especially for administrative tasks, is accessible via the following link new.spe-cdni.org.

A big thank you goes to the developers of the app, the company FrontForce based in Antwerp, and the national institutions, which actively supported the development. Last but not least we would like to thank the numerous inland navigation sector companies and sole traders that have taken part in testing the app since 4 July 2023 and can now experience the app in operation as an update.
